Enjoyed the location it was perfect, room was clean and adequate for a one night stay. Staff were really helpfull, in fact all the service received by all staff was excellent!
Disappointed that the bar/lounge did not serve bar snacks/meals after 9pm for residents, not even a cold sandwich.
The location was fantastic, the room was clean, although overlooking the main road it was still quiet at night, recently revamped room, iron, coffee making etc all provided.
Our room was outside the hotel, in the car park area, a bit dark late at night to be walking back to, also the main door in the block was left un-locked which was a bit daunting. There were no curtians in the toilet, which overlooked the car park, and none in the bathroom; which thankfully had half frosted glass, no hallway light and the light in the shower did not work either.
Character, location, relaxing.
Some rooms a little tired, fittings cheap, little water pressure for shower.
The decor and the food would very good, the service was excellent.
There was no hair dryer, and no shower and the street outside was noisy with revellers.
Nice, old-fashioned building that had retained many features but also had modern facilites eg good plumbing and secondary glazing. Very welcoming receptionist. Staff generally were helpful and pleasant. Easy check-in. Private parking. Very comfortable bed with good linen.
Breakfast was disappointing - had it been cooked hours in advance? Bar area could do with a make-over to make it feel more relaxing and welcoming. Absence of a lift could have been a problem. We were surprised that the room lacked those little extras eg toiletries.
as it is near my son's home and convenient for me to be near. it is clean and food is good staff friendly and obliging all ok for me
nothing to dislike in my opinion all ok apart from price reduction on my departure date £20 per night
The Hotel is based in the market square, right in the centre of Richmond and therefore ideal as a base to explore.
The position of the hotel in Richmond is central and there is hotel parking for visitors and free parking in the square in the evening. The exterior of the building is impressive. The young receptionist was pleasant and friendly. Our room - overlooking the square - was double glazed and good size. On Sunday morning (after 10 am) there were bagpipers playing in the square. Didn't expect that - but loved it. Breakfast in the restaurant (also overlooked the square) unusually included items such as smoked haddock and kippers which is good to see, though we didn't test them. We thought breakfast was fairly reasonably priced and the waitress friendly. After ordering breakfast came quite promptly. The bedroom was pleasantly traditionally furnished but a little "tired". The bed was comfortable. Richmond is a lovely and interesting town.
We did not see all the public rooms but the reception, staircase and our bedroom all need a revamp. Grubby blue carpet on the main staircase looked particularly sad and worn. The radiators in our room and bathroom only heated very slightly in one corner, no matter which setting was chosen; as it was a fairly mild night not too much of a problem, but could have been on a more average May night. The cheap "art" in the bedroom was inappropriate to the style of the room's furnishings. 25 watt lightbulbs in small bedside lamps are not enough! Only having heavy curtains at the lovely big windows meant we had to keep curtains closed while we wandered in pyjamas or dressed. The huge bathroom had no separate shower and - as the heating was not on - a hand-held shower over the corner bath with no shower curtain, was a chilly affair. There was no extractor and it was not possible to open the vast drafty sash window (not double glazed); could have done with curtains or a blind to keep some heat in. The bathroom fittings (including a bidet!) were probably last replaced in the 70s - bubblegum pink with brass taps etc. a slightly grubby white whicker table and chair plus a 5ft garden statue of a young woman were all a bit unnecessary. One of the lights at the handbasin did not work. An orange coloured deposit behind the door had clearly been left untouched for quite a while. Tables at breakfast had to be cleared before we could sit, though only 4 or 5 tables were occupied and 3 staff were working. We were not asked which table we would like to sit at. Sausages were of the cheaper variety, fried eggs came with solid yolks and bacon was not at all crispy. We have experienced many hotels in this price bracket and know that all could be so much better with just a little more attention to detail and a few renewed fixtures and fittings, so I do hope the management read this.
Used as stopover between business meetings. Did discover set in beautiful countryside with convenience Richmond centre.
Quite dated in decoration and furniture felt could do with a litttle modernisation in sympathy with traditional building. Felt quite expensive for the facilities and quality of room.
The food was great and the restaurant staff extremely attentive. The seemed to be a shortage of staff over the weekend but the remainder coped very well.
Outside door locked on Saturday & Sunday before midnight
The size of the bathroom, the decoration of our room and the staff were very friendly.
The decoration in our room was not of a high standard and the door handle was very loose
The breakfast was ok.
We stayed in the annexe which was awful, the room was extremely small and smelt of urine. The shower was covered in green limescale and the controls for the shower where a dirty brown and the whole bathroom smelt musty and damp. The breakfast crockery was so old the enemal had worn off the plates. We were extremely disappointed
Being out of the hotel and seeing relatives. The time we spent at night it was quiet as we'd asked for such a room. Comfy bed.
I thought the hotel was very tired looking, Decor poor. Staff attention varied but was kept waiting for a key at reception for some time while lady set off with another client without noticing me at all.Other staff disinterasted - using mobile phones. Evidence of leaks and draughts. Paper comimg off walls/ceilings. Broken/damaged blind.Tiny bathroom. No separate shower.Ill operating furniture. No lift.
Nice sized room, excellent food, great location.
Very poor check in, no staff available for help with breakfast, no shower in room, or apparently showers in the hotel! No double glazing, so the room was noisy and loud. Also noise from corridors very loud.
Allowed to check-in early, staff extremely friendly & nothing was too much trouble for them
'Double' bed was 2 divans pushed together and easily separated
